summer is...(p.21)

“And then, one fairy night, May became June.”

-F. Scott Fitzgerald

Summer is…

open windows and warm breezes,

bare feet and green grass,

ripe tomatoes and tender strawberries,

wildflowers and butterflies,

beaches and umbrellas,

icy treats and parks,

late nights and campfires,

toasted marshmallows and sticky hands,

sunglasses and straw hats,

fireflies and glass jars,

front yard trees and swings,

bare skin and linen dresses,

clotheslines and crisp towels,

barbeques and paper plates,

fireworks and cousins,

lazy days and warm nights,

watermelon and weathered tables,

checkered cloths and lit candles,

crossword puzzles and sun porches,

dirt roads and long walks,

long runs and favorite songs,

gathering families and new memories,

grass stains and tag,

street lights and evening strolls,

good books and hammocks,

ocean waves and healing air,

wagons and beach chairs,

sailboats and windy days,

parks and concerts,

corn on the cob and aluminum foil,

skimming rocks and sunsets,

light cotton gowns and fans,

honeysuckle and cattle guards,

daisies and first loves,

afternoons and naps,

carnivals and cotton candy air,

parades and marching bands,

bathing suits and hooks,

cottages and screen doors,

daily swims and curly hair,

beach bags and sunscreen,

card games and drinks,

corner stores and friendly faces,

sparklers and magical smiles,

distant mowers and singing birds,

sprinklers and dancing rainbows,

crickets and a good night’s sleep. ❤️
