my wish to love a dragon (p.13)

“Perhaps all the dragons in our lives are princesses who are only waiting to see us act, just once, with beauty and courage. Perhaps everything that frightens us is, in its deepest essence, something helpless that wants our love.”

-Rainer Maria Rilke

Today has me thinking about love.

Not in the traditional sense of love, but wondering how my lens views the world.

Let me try to explain…

I want my first thought to be what is good in someone. I want my first thought to be what is good in this world. I want my first thought to be what is right and well in my life.

I know it sounds extreme, but I believe one’s thoughts can ultimately be placed into one of two categories, love or fear.

And my wish is most are of love.

I believe we are all inherently good. Life experiences just begin to add filters to our lens along the way. Many filters are not chosen but still added. Every new experience has the chance to add another layer.

My wish is to see life without filters. To view through a crystal clear lens with which I was born.

My children have asked me repeatedly through the years, “If you could have one superpower, what would it be?”. I wasn’t quite sure then. But I know now.

I would choose x-ray vision so that I could see past all of our filters and we finally truly are able to see each other.

Love or fear. I don’t know about you, but I am so tired of fear.

May we all truly see our dragons for what they are and feed them with what they need, love instead of fear.❤️
