full circle (p.19)
This week’s beauty is more a journey than a moment.
It began when I was a child. I discovered the camera.
I would take the point and shoot, wind up, film camera to the fields around my grandmother’s house.
As I walked the fields every flower drew me towards it.
I don’t know how many daisies I took a picture of! I would lay beside them, look at them from every angle before pressing the button, and wonder, “Did I get it?”.
I searched those fields endlessly. I am not sure what drew me to them originally. I am not sure why I picked up that camera.
But I loved being out there.
I loved the search.
I loved looking through that viewfinder and wanting to create a masterpiece.
My pictures never seemed to be in focus, unfortunately. Imagine my mother’s surprise to find her entire roll of film, out of focus, and of daisies, or trees, or leaves, or “weeds”.
I asked my mom not long ago if she still had any of the pictures I took of granny’s field. She pulled these out and sent me this picture.
It made me smile. Reminding me, when I first fell in love with the camera, how my eye hasn’t changed, and that my mom still had them.
Today, I have come full circle, and just created my very first fine art print collection.
It does not surprise me that my very first series would be of flowers.
These florals are inspired by the Dutch Masters. From Brueghel to Rembrandt, my prints were imagined from their paintbrushes, and the hidden stories behind each stroke.
I, too, hid a story behind each petal. My hope is that these prints will delight at each glimpse and remind you of the message they hold.
Our walls are sacred. They whisper to us with every glance, make sure they tell your story.
And I want to thank you for coming along with me on my journey. ❤️
